Colon Polyp

A colon polyp is a small growth that occurs in the lining of the colon. Normally, it is harmless but over time, around 3-5 years or more, some polyps might develop into colon cancer. It is usually found in people aged over 45 years old.

In the early stage, there will be no warning signs or symptoms. However, the following symptoms will show when it becomes more severe:

  • Blood in the stool
  • Vomiting of blood
  • Chronic diarrhea
  • Chronic constipation

Therefore, people aged over 45 years old should undergo a colonoscopy to diagnose and screen the risk of colon cancer, especially for people who have family members aged under 45 years old with colon cancer history. They should undergo the screening 5 years earlier compared to the age of the one who has had colon cancer.  For example, one of your family member has colon cancer at 44 years old, you should undergo the screening at the age of 39 years old.
